June 2026: Building Brighter Summers

School's out, schedules are shifting, and summer is in full swing. While kids are finding new ways to spend their free time (and parents are figuring out how to keep up), we're sharing resources to help make the most of the season, from supporting youth during the coming out process to navigating online safety and even embracing the benefits of boredom. You'll also find an invitation to our upcoming webinar on school-based health centers in Ohio, meet three new members of our Board of Directors, and discover upcoming events across the prevention and behavioral health community.

Whether you're supporting young people, building community partnerships, or taking a well-deserved moment to enjoy the season, we're glad you're here with us.

Know! To Support Kids During the Coming Out Process

June is Pride Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions, history, and resilience of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) community. Alongside parades and other celebrations, Pride Month can also be a meaningful time for young people to share their identities with family and friends.

This Know! Tip provides guidance for navigating these conversations with care, compassion, and openness.

Know! To Discuss Youth Safety Online

With more free time during the summer, kids often spend extra hours on their phones, raising concerns about cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and screen overuse. While social media poses risks, it also offers ways to explore interests, connect, and express creativity.

This summer is a chance to start open, supportive conversations about social media, mental health, and setting healthy boundaries together. Check out our talking tips to spark meaningful conversations with young people by clicking the button below.

School-Based Health Centers in Ohio: The Model, Landscape, and Opportunities for Partnership
School-Based Health Centers in Ohio: The Model, Landscape, and Opportunities for Partnership

Join us for an informative webinar exploring the role of school-based health centers (SBHCs) in supporting the health and well-being of Ohio’s youth. SBHCs are an evidence-driven approach that brings healthcare directly to students where they spend much of their time — at school. Through partnerships between schools and community healthcare providers, SBHCs increase access to comprehensive care, including primary care, behavioral health, oral health, vision services, care coordination, and other wraparound supports.

This session will provide an overview of the SBHC model, examine the current landscape of SBHCs across Ohio, and highlight how these centers help address barriers to care in under-resourced communities and areas impacted by transportation and provider shortages. Participants will also explore opportunities for collaboration between prevention professionals, schools, and SBHCs to strengthen prevention efforts and improve outcomes for students and families.
